GPA Focus

Is it vital that from the beginning of your education that you keep a strong focus on achieving and maintaining a high GPA. The average requirement for law schools it to have a  GPA of 3.42 and with anything less than this you will find it difficult to gain a place. Top law schools like Yale, Harvard and Stanford have GPA requirements of 3.9, 3.89 and 3.87 respectively so if you truly want to be a great lawyer by studying in an excellent law school then its time to pick up the grades. Your GPA is an average and if you think you can take it easy in the beginning and then work hard towards the end of your studies then you are mistaken.

Choose a Good Major

The American Bar association doesn’t specify any particular make that you are required to choose but there are some that will help you more than others. Majors that involve plenty of reading and argument formulation such as journalism, philosophy and history and favorably looked upon and it is majors like these that you should be looking towards. Studying prelaw does not necessarily make you a great candidate for law school and you’d be better served on putting your efforts into something more analytical.

Extra Curricular Activities

Providing your GPA is on point and you have successfully studied in a strong major there is one more thing that you need to do in order to stand out to law schools and make yourself a more attractive candidate and that is through doing extra curricular activities. If you can dedicate your free time to the pursuit of knowledge within the field of law then law schools will see how dedicated you are to succeed. One of the best things that you can do is to look for an internship in a law firm, this will give you first hand experience of working in the law industry and you will be able to attain knowledge that you simply cannot learn from a book in a classroom. This experience will not only enhance your studies but will make you a glittering candidate for law school.
