Please don't park your bike like this.

I was walking around Los Angeles City College and  I was happy to see many students riding their bike and taking public transport instead of driving.

But sometimes when we're doing great in one area we sort of forget about other areas.

I was not happy with this sight:

Wrongwaytoparkbike

A bike chained to and blocking the wheelchair ramp at the front of the campus.

There are quite a few differently-abled people who attend LACC and the Braille Institute is right next door, so being mindful of people who may not have the ride a bike option and only have the option to get around via wheelchair, cane or their legs is very important.

Now at this entrance in it's photographed state if a person were in a wheelchair they would have no easy options. They would have to choose the time consuming option of going all the way around to the side entrance.

That's not fair. It's not fair that someone in a wheelchair has to be late to class, because someone thought it would be ok to chain their bike to another person's path to equal access.

If your campus needs more bike parking let the administrators know that, because blocking access and taking another person's rights away, because it is more convenient is not very eco, in fact it's pretty freakin' selfish.

This Week's Triptych—07 March 2008

It is a weird mix, this week's triptych—more weird than what I imagine future ones will be. We shall see.

1. Could this be where reformed taggers retire? Og_custom_paint Or am I merely desperate to get a laugh?

2. What better to get your girl than candy and condoms while she is waiting on-line for the fabulous burrito and corn chips dinner? Good thing this East L.A. eatery has it all within a few feet of the express bus stop. (If you can name the place, and gimme yer mailing address, I will send you a box of Condom Candy!

3. Does this bunny have the measles?  BunnymeaslesScroll down for the answer.

Playbraille_bunny I had to pass up loads of lines and just be straight up with this one. No one obvious quip would have done: "They really DO get it for the articles!" "How big are the bumps in the photos?" "How can blind folk possibly masturbate if they are reading with their fingers?" and so on.
Yes, I am a sad little man. . .

Bobby Matos Afro Latin Jazz Workshop Orchestra at Braille School

Having done considerable volunteer work for the blind—I have a soft spot in my otherwise blackened cinder of a heart for those bereft of sight—it were no surprise to find me at the Braille Institute on Tuesday for the lunchtime concert. (Oddly enough, I find sight the least appreciable of the five recognised senses, whereas hearing I deem the most important.)

This time round featured the 20-piece Afro Latin Jazz Workshop Orchestra directed by Bobby Matos. A wide variety of music by composers such as Tito Puente, A.K. Salim, Rene Hernandez and several others is what the group plays. Below is a brief video (just under one-and-a-half minutes) from Tuesday's performance. The ensemble will again assemble on Sunday, 02 March at 5 p.m. for a show at The Echo on 1822 W. Sunset Blvd in Echo Park.
