Currently LADOT Cityride program provides the elderly and differently-abled with 84 dollars worth of fare quarterly (three months.) The amount of fare you can receive per year is 336 dollars. The cost per quarter is 15 dollars, 6 dollars if you're low income.
That 84 dollars can be used for a cab, Cityride Dial-A-Ride or a Metro Senior/Disabled monthly passes.
Allowing customers up to 20 miles distance for Dial-A-Ride.
Reducing the fare value from 84 dollars to 42 dollars. Reducing the amount of fare from $336 to $168 per year.
Increasing the cost to purchase Cityride fare value from 6 dollars to 9 dollars for low income customers; and from 15 dollars to 21 dollars for other customers.
Reduce the maximum trip length for Dial-A-Ride to ten miles it used to be 20 miles.
Eliminating the ability for people using the Cityride fare value to use this value to purchase a Metro pass with Cityride fare value.
Those are some steep and insane cuts. That a 50% drop in value of the Cityride fare value.
In regards to what customers have to pay that's a 50% increase for low income and 40% increase for other customers.
What if the cost of your TAP card went up 50%? What if the cost of the gas you used to fill your car went up 50%. This is grossly unfair and morally wrong.
This is huge especially if you take into account the average check for those who are disabled and elderly is a measly 1,100 dollars. If you're over 65 that's the money that's owed to you. Money you lent the government (with NO interest) so that you wouldn't have to subsist on dog food.
Let LADOT know we're not going to accept these barbaric cuts. We live in a civilized society. People who are civilized don't do this to their grandmothers.
How to inform LADOT this is unacceptable:
