...and so, foolishly, we kept mum—for four months. We even had a video, and we sat on it.
However, seeing as The Bus Bench should have reported what may well now come to pass—and our track record regarding Measure R, The Gold Line and the on-going problem of Metro busses running red lights—as well as the PR lipstick blitz that is The Source for Metro's bovine behaviour. . .well, no more. An excellent article by Neon Tommy (a blog that also provided a diligent Gold Line investigation series) No more shall The Bus Bench get thrown under the bus when it stumbles upon information that strap-hangers and bus-riders need to know.
The cautious comments of those who know what will transpire—even as they speak as if the TAP faregate-gate project is up in the air—are easily divined by anyone familiar with the statements and copy produced by politicians and news media. (For those unfamiliar with the way it works, there is plenty cause for alarm when a question is not answered with an unequivocal "yes" or "no.")
And in the case of doubt, here is what I had to state back on 18 August on
Second Avenue Sagas:
"The LACMTA faregate-gate is an on-going debacle, to be sure.
For starters, there are rumours that the gates are not working and
my not be installed in other than the four Red Line stations at which
they are being presently beta-tested. More will be known when in
September the findings of the beta-testing are reported by Metro CEO
Art Leahy to the Metro Board."

You weren't the only one screaming about the fare gates. Calm down over there.
