Hey LACMTA: What Mistakes Might We Anticipate THIS week?
Starting with the unprecedented death toll owing to Metrolink's wreck on Friday, 12 Sept., the public transit in southern CA has had no dearth of near-fatal mistakes in what appears to be an effort to permanently wreck public transit.
As such, one would do well to wonder: How is Metro/MTA/etc gonna roger us this week?
more after the transfer—provided you ain't dead. . .
Need we weigh in on the Metrolink crash? Perhaps—but only after the NTSB hands down its decision and providing Metrolink does not make another outrageous mistake.
In the meantime, let us have a look at living on the edge.
On 16 September, Metro made two ominous mistakes. One was in the morning, when the Purple Line saw Red. The other was not reported—until now—whereby two trains were scheduled to arrive on one track owing to the other track being closed for maintanence, or construction, or perhaps a party. (Who knows? Certainly not Metro.) Immediate below is footage and some photos of what appears to be a benign situation—unless one looks at the times, dates and activity:
Then there was last Friday's Blue Line collision with a Metro bus that was driven by a Metro mechanic, a person from the agency that won the Grand Champion Award at the International Bus Roadeo. The sundry calamties and mistakes appeared to have prompted even KTLA to report that the Blue Line collision—an article that remains online despite its own glaring headline error—is Metrolink's responsibility. (If KTLA ever gets round to taking the story offline, I have a PDF version available.)
