The wrong side of the wrong side of the tracks is where one can find the very newly opened Purgatory Pizza. Aptly named owing to its location on E. 1st Street between the L.A. River and the 101 Freeway (and within spitting distance of the Gold Line extension on its way to the nearly finished tunnel beneath the 101), this parlour is just plain odd.
Having opened earlier this year, Purgatory was initially a delivery-only service. Then, at the beginning of November, the owner decided to make it a place where other freaks could sit down and have a slice of pie or a whole pie. Purgatory serves one of the best god-damned pizzas I have eaten since leaving New York two years ago. Along with the homey demeanour of the owner and other folk who work there, I can only state that I am hooked.
‘Nuff said.

I like the porta potty being in that pic. Nice composition, fits that end of town where everything is screwy but you still stumble upon treasures in the midst of it...

Come see what we did to the place. The walls are covered in art and almost done....
